To create and schedule posts in Post Planner, open the post composer.
The post composer uses a simple 4-step process for creating posts:
The composer uses this 4-step process for all posts, whether you're creating a single post (with a single content item) or multiple posts (with multiple content items).
You can learn how to do each one here:
How to create a SINGLE post — "Single-post"
How to create MULTIPLE posts at once — "Multi-post"
The composer offers the Post Planner's most powerful tools for creating and optimizing posts. Here's how to use those tools:
Copiable texts (with content you find in Post Planner)
Network settings (first comments, albums, boards, etc.)
Create posts in 4 steps
1. Choose post destination
Step 1 is where you choose where your post(s) will be sent:
You have 2 options:
Choose one of your buckets
Choose a profile (or list of profiles)
NOTE: when using the 2nd option, the profile selector is the same selector you use in the left sidebar of Posts and History. And the profile(s) or list you have selected in those places will also be auto-selected when you open the composer.
2. Add post content
Step 2 is where you add content for your post(s).
For Single-post, it looks like this:
To add content, simply start typing or pasting text or links into the Caption box — or add media.
You can also take advantage of:
For Multi-post, Step 2 looks like this:
To add content in bulk, you can:
Upload images from your computer
Upload articles from an RSS feed
Upload a spreadsheet of posts (using our sample sheet)
3. Fine-tune posts
Step 3 is where you optimize your posts for each social network — and also add network-specific settings
For Single-post, Step 3 looks like this:
To fine-tune your posts, click on the specific network tab you want to optimize (or view all in a list format) and then do things like:
Optimize your caption for each network
Add tags
Add hashtags appropriate for each network
Add a first comment (for FB and IG posts)
For network-specific settings you can choose:
Albums (for Facebook)
Location (for Instagram)
Title, description, link and board (for Pinterest)
Button (for Google Business)
etc.
For Multi-post, Step 3 looks like this:
NOTE: You have the same fine-tuning options as with Single-post, but no post previews.
4. Create posts
Step 4 is where you choose the scheduling settings and confirm the creation of your posts.
It works the same for Single-post and Multi-post.
If you want to add your post(s) to a bucket, simply choose the bucket as post destination in Step 1 and then click Add to Bucket in Step 4.
If you want to publish your post(s) in the future (without using a bucket), then you need to choose whether to queue or schedule your posts.
Here's an article explaining the difference between queued and scheduled posts:
Here's what your options for queueing or scheduling look like:
Here what each option means:
Share Next = add post to top of queue, to go out next
Share Now = schedule post to publish in the next couple minutes
Schedule Post = schedule post to publish at a specific time in the future
Add to Queue (default) = add post to bottom of queue, to go out last
Share Next and Add to Queue use the queue system. When you choose one of these options, you also need to choose your recycle setting:
Recycle off
Recycle forever
Recycle until XX date
Recycle XX number of times
"Recycle" simply means the post will be sent to the bottom of the queue again after publishing. It can do this forever, a certain number of times, or until a certain date.
Share Now and Schedule Post use the schedule system. When you choose one of these options, you also need to choose your repeat setting:
Repeat every XX days/weeks/months
Until: XX date -or- Forever
"Repeat" means exact what you think. The post will publish repeatedly, based on the settings you choose.
Here's an article explaining the difference between recycling and repeating posts:
Single-post vs. Multi-post
As mentioned above, when creating posts with the composer, you can choose Single-post or Multi-post.
The difference between the two is pretty simple:
Single-post is used to create:
a single post for a single profile
EXAMPLE: a carousel post for your Instagram account
a single post for multiple profiles
EXAMPLE: a video post for your FB page, LinkedIn account and Twitter account (all using the same video)
Multi-post is used to create:
multiple posts for a single profile
EXAMPLE: 10 different article posts (all with unique links) for your FB page
multiple posts for multiple profiles
EXAMPLE: 25 different image posts (all with unique images) for your FB page, Instagram account and Pinterest account
Reminder: both Single-post and Multi-post use the same 4-step process for post creation. Below you can see how to do each.
How to create a single post (for multiple networks)
To create a single post (for a single profile or multiple profiles), choose "single post" in the first dropdown at the top of the composer:
Then follow Steps 2-4 to create your post(s).
How to create multiple posts (for multiple networks)
To create multiple posts (for a single profile or multiple profiles), choose "multiple posts" in the first dropdown at the top of the composer:
Then follow Steps 2-4 to create your posts.
Whichever option you choose (Single-post or Multi-post), you will have access to the same post optimization tools.
Post optimization tools
As you know, different social networks require different formats, components and content types.
If you don't follow these networks requirements, your post will fail to perform well (best case) or fail to publish at all (worst case).
That means optimizing your posts is critical!
To create optimized posts that have the best chance of performing well (reaching people and getting engagement), use the tools below.
Saved texts
Saved texts is a section in Step 2 where you save your most useful and oft-used texts.
For example, you can save hashtag groups, CTAs, signatures and more.
Click the "+" button to add a new Saved text:
Click the copy icon to copy and paste the text to your captions.
You can paste them into the caption boxes in Step 2 or Step 3.
Copiable texts
The composer offers a few other copiable texts in Step 2 — but only when adding content from Post Planner's Content tool.
For example, if you add any content from a feed, you will see:
Caption text — to copy the caption from the original social media post
Credit text — to copy a credit text linking back to the content source
Link info texts — to copy the headline, description or url from the link you're sharing
Below is what each looks like.
Caption and credit texts
Link info texts
Content search
You can find content with Post Planner's Content tool anytime.
But you can also search for content directly from the composer in Step 2.
Just click:
Search for content
Search for media
... and add a keyword or search query.
Image editor
To edit an image in the composer, first upload your image.
Then click the pencil icon on the image.
Alternatively, you can click the "Create" button to open our Studio (or the Canva plugin) to create an image from scratch.
Network settings
To optimize your posts for each of the 7 networks that Post Planner posts to, you need to add network-specific settings in Step 3.
Below are the settings you have available to you.
Tagging — add a live tag to your post caption
First comment — add an optional first comment to publish with your post
Album — choose the album your media posts to
Re-share — re-share the original FB post you found in the Content tool
Here are all 4 at work:

Recycling / repeating posts
What is the difference between recycling and repeating posts? Read here:
Below is how to set your posts to recycle and repeat.
Single-post mode
In Single-post mode, the settings for recycling and repeating posts are in Step 4.
For queued posts, you have these recycle options:
Recycle forever

Here's what it looks like:
For scheduled posts, you can choose your repeat setting in the same place you choose the scheduled time — with these variables:
Repeat every XX days/weeks/months
Until: Forever -or- [future date]
Here's what it looks like:
Multi-post mode
In Multi-post mode, the recycling settings are available on each post in Step 3.
You can also use the bulk action button to apply recycle settings to multiple posts at once.
